Join us for a River Raisin National Battlefield Park Foundation
Members Only Event on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
Come hear about the culture and lifestyles of the Muskrat French habitants with Ralph Naveaux
A special event for the Foundation Members of the River Raisin National Battlefield Park Foundation will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the National Battlefield Park Visitor Center. Local author and historian, Ralph Naveaux, will present a PowerPoint program to discuss the culture and lifestyles of the “Muskrat French” habitants that made their homes along the River Raisin. Topics will include land patterns, housing, relations with Native Americans, dress, farming, food, education, and folklore.
Ralph Naveaux writes, “People tend to dismiss our early history as irrelevant in the modern world, but it’s not. The story of the French and Indians who lived here at the beginning of the 19th century can empower our sense of place and belonging today.”
The presentation begins at 1:00 p.m. and will last about an hour. Following the program, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and enjoy camaraderie with other Foundation Members. Light refreshments will be available.
