On this 2 mile walk as day turn to night, participants will learn about that which was once on, in, and around the River Raisin. The piece of land upon which the Battlefield Park sits has witnessed life and loss, peace and war, the end of countless chapters and the beginning of many new ones. Many know it was the site of the bloodiest battle that ever took place in Michigan, and the site of the greatest loss for American soldiers during the War of 1812. Few know that the very first road ever built in Michigan cuts through the land, or that the residents at Frenchtown lived peacefully with their Native American neighbors. On this Ranger-led walk visitors will discover even more UNTOLD stories that surround the Battle of the River Raisin, including who the UPS Truck Driver equivalent was during the 19th Century, that which constituted “the gold standard” in the days before paper money, and what prehistoric creatures still lurk below sea level in the Great Lakes region. Memories of the past will come back to life in surprising ways…A family-friendly event that is interactive, mysterious, and totally fun.
