SUMMARY:Never Forgotten: POW/MIA Trail of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:Never Forgotten: POW/MIA Trail of Remembrance\nThe River Raisin National Battlefield Park\, as Michigan’s largest battlefield\, preserves and protects the sacred soil that became the final resting place of the largest number of U.S. soldiers killed in a single battle during the War of 1812.  After the January 22\, 1813 battle along the River Raisin\, 586 U.S. soldiers were taken prisoner\, the most ever taken by a foreign power from the continental United States.  British forces marched the able-bodied American prisoners north from the River Raisin towards Detroit and then on to Canada. Please join the National Battlefield Park\, DTE Energy Foundation\, First Merchants Bank\, La-Z-Boy Inc.\, Sieb Plumbing & Heating and the Kiwanis Club of Monroe in remembering and honoring all who were taken as prisoners of war and those who served and never returned home. \nThe flags are visible from sunrise to sunset along the walk-way outside the Park’s new Visitor Center towards the Battlefield grounds. \n\n\nCOVID-19 Guidelines:\nAs the National Park Service monitors and responds to the COVID-19 pandemic\, we work closely with the doctors and public health professionals in the NPS Office of Public Health to use the latest science to guide our decision making. The CDC recommends all individuals wear a mask indoors in public in areas of substantial or high transmission. However\, visitors to national parks travel from all over the country and the world. Because of this and recognizing that most of the United States is currently in substantial or high transmission categories\, and in consultation with doctors and public health professionals\, we’ve implemented a nationwide mask requirement. To best protect our staff and visitors\, masks are required inside all NPS buildings and in crowded outdoor spaces\, regardless of vaccination status or location.
